Fire Information Phone: 541-421-3039
(Please Note: We are experiencing phone problems at this time. Please refer to websites for latest information.)

Current Situation:
Last night an infra-red flight was flown that mapped the perimeter of the fire and detected the hot spots for the fire fighters to focus on today. The mapping unit mapped the fire at 2,984 acres. There was minimal growth in the fire size since Saturday night. The fire perimeter is mapped at 14.23 miles. To put this another way imagine walking from downtown Portland to Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, Washington.

Yesterday’s approximate half inch of rain helped the fire fighters efforts by wetting the fuels and extinguishing light smokes. No rain is forecasted for today. Cooler temperatures and higher humidity will keep the fire activity to a minimum.

Fire fighters will focus on completing the fireline around the entire perimeter today, mostly on the west side. Day Operations Section Chief Joe Hessel stated “Today’s mission is clear – with a good day of hard work, we can fill in the gaps and get a line tied around this fire”. On portions of the fire where the line is completed, crews will begin to lay hose and fittings in preparation for the next phase: mop-up.

There have been zero injuries to incident fire fighters.

The incident command post is located at 289 East Hardisty St. (in the community center), Long Creek, OR

Central Oregon Fire Update

Central Oregon – Several changes this morning to closures in the National Forests due to reduced fire activity on the Muskrat and South Forks Fires.  In the Deschutes National Forest, the West Cultus Lake boat-in Campground and trails north of Cultus Lake have reopened to public entry.  Also, the entire closure area in the Ochoco National Forest has reopened to the public, although there are still closures in place on BLM and Malheur National Forests associated with the South Forks Complex.  The fire information number for this incident is 866-347-0636 or find the most recent closures and announcements at http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4042/.  The South Forks Complex is now 90% contained.

Public use restrictions as well as an Industrial Fire Precaution Level III (IFPL III) are still in place for Federal lands in Central Oregon.  The public use restriction currently prohibits open fires, including charcoal fires, except in designated campgrounds.  IFPL III means that personal and commercial woodcutters are prohibited from operating power saws.  Public use restrictions and the IFPL III apply to the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests, Crooked River National Grassland, and the BLM Prineville District.  For details on these specific restrictions, please contact the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center at 541-416-6811.

Central Oregon Fire Update

Central Oregon – Firefighters on the Ferguson Springs Fire, located approximately 9 miles SE of Prineville Reservoir, are slowly being released as containment is now at 90%.  The 6-acre fire, located 3 miles north of Rager Ranger Station, is now considered 100% contained.  Resources continue to be available to respond to any new reports that come in as fire danger is still high for Central Oregon.   A stable westerly flow has moved into the area and will bring reduced wind speeds out of the west with no thunderstorms expected this afternoon or tonight.

No growth has occurred on the 2.25 acre fire in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness.  The smokejumpers working on this fire are wrapping up fire suppression activities and will be released this afternoon.

The South Fork Complex is located 5 miles south of Dayville around the south fork of the John Day River.  The fire is burning in a mix of private, BLM, U.S. Forest Service, and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife managed lands. Currently, the South Fork Complex is 86% contained with an estimated containment date of September 1, 2014.  There are continued closures in place due to fire activity.  The fire information number for this incident is 866-347-0636 or find the most recent closures and announcements at http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4042/
