Central Oregon MORNING Fire Update

Central Oregon –  Firefighters quickly responded to two new fires on the Crescent Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest yesterday, keeping them under 1 acre. There are over 150 fires across Central Oregon--most less than an acre--that have started since July 28.  All fires that have been contained and mopped up are being monitored and patrolled.

The Goose Paint Fire nine miles north of Mitchell, Oregon did not grow yesterday. Firefighters have put containment line around the fire and will continue improving that line today. The Goose Paint Fire is burning on 190 acres in a mix of private and BLM-administered lands.

The South Fork Complex continues to be managed by Oregon Incident Management Team 4 (Type II-Watts). The fire is now reported at 35,965 acres and is 15% contained. This group of fires is located south of John Day, Oregon and east of the Ochoco National Forest. For specific information about this incident, please call (866) 347-0636.

The Castle Fire burning south of the Metolius River on the Sisters Ranger District, Deschutes National Forest is now 60% contained and remains at 16 acres. An area closure remains in place for the Sisters Ranger District, which includes the Monty Campground.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for northeast Oregon and southeast Washington, which will also be bringing increased winds to Central Oregon this afternoon.

Information on these fires and other large fires burning throughout the country can be found on a national incident management website called Inciweb atwww.inciweb.nwcg.gov
